Further information
What is the accommodation like ?
Santa Barbara Cottage is an old country cottage which has recently been renovated from top to bottom. Entering through traditional double doors, you can mount the antique-tile staircase to the first of two bedrooms. This has two single beds, a built-in wardrobe and an en-suite shower room. Mount the second flight of stairs and you enter the main bedroom, with double bed (150cm x 195cm), fitted wardrobes and an en-suite bathroom. There is also access to the private roof terrace.
On the ground floor, off the entrance hall, there is a cloak room with WC and walk-in shower. The kitchen is cottage style, complete with beamed ceiling and Swedish wood burning stove, but also has all the modern amenities of electric oven, ceramic hob, dishwasher, microwave and fridge/freezer. It also has double extractor fans and excellent lighting. With its marble and oak worktops and all of its other equipment, it makes an ideal place to stay for the serious gourmands and the keen self-caterers amongst you.
The kitchen is partly open-plan with the dining area, which opens out onto the front terrace via two sets of double French windows, making a bright, airy and cool space in the summer. The small TV lounge opening off the dining area is deocorated in a Moorish style with built in sofas and plenty of cushions (any of the sofas can double as beds if there are more than 4 of you). The lounge is also equipped with a 32 inch flat screen TV with both Portuguese and English channels. There is a video and DVD player and a complementary selection of films and music. The cottage also has free wifi internet access, so you can bring your laptop if you like. Off the front terrace there is a separate store room with washing machine.
How big is the house ?
The total gross internal area is 93m2 (1001 square feet).
What outside spaces and facilities are there ?
The roof terrace, entered from the main bedroom is ideal for sunbathing during the day (if you can stand the heat) and for star-gazing at night. Along the front of the house is an old stone terrace, partly shaded at one end with the overhanging branches of an old carob tree. The focal centre of the terrace is a large, circular, stone dining table, and semi-circular stone benches festooned with cushions for after-dinner relaxation. At the far end of the terrace is a further, small, sunken terrace with wooden bench and table and barbeque.
The cottage has its own large garden with mature carob, almond and fig trees. Guests can feast on fresh figs every day in the middle of summer. The carob trees also provide the best shade and coolest space in which to relax on hot summer days, and there is a tree platform for use of guests. For those with children, there is plenty of space in which to play football or badminton or other games. Children are also welcome to climb the trees. There is shaded parking space close to the house.
What is it like walking from the property ?
There is a nice, wild area to walk in to the north of the property, with some nice views.
How close is the nearest beach ?
The nearest beach is at Fuzeta, a ten minute drive away.
How close are the nearest food shops ?
There is a very rustic little shop just a five minute walk away. Otherwise, the nearest food shops are in Luz de Tavira and Moncarapacho, each a ten minute drive away.
How close are the nearest restaurants ?

What is there to do ?
You can just enjoy the peace of the cottage, or use it as an ideal base to explore the nearby towns such as Tavira and Olhăo, and the fabulous local beaches and bird life of the Ria Formosa.
Are children welcome ?
Yes, very. There's plenty of safe outside space to play in for the traditional ones, as well as DVD and internet access for the modern ones.
Can we smoke in the property ?
No. Smoking outside only. SMOKERS MUST TAKE GREAT CARE TO DISPOSE SAFELY OF CIGARETTES AS THE RISK OF CAUSING FIRE IN THE SUMMER IS VERY HIGH.
On which day(s) can we arrive/leave ?
This is flexible, but must fit well with existing bookings.
Is there a minimum/maximum length of stay ?
