Description (Property Reference: 110) Villa Monte is a beautifully restored, large country house, situated in the foot hills. It is not overlooked by any other houses and enjoys complete privacy on the rear and pool terraces with views over the local countryside. Inside, the house is richly decorated and very comfortable throughout. In July and August you can only rent the whole place, sleeping up to eight. For the rest of the year, you are very welcome in the Guesthouse, sleeping 2. At any time of year, Villa Monte is a wonderful rural retreat that will refresh your soul.

What is the accommodation like ?

The Main House - The centre of the house is a large, open-plan, kitchen, dining and lounge area. French windows open out onto the West terrace. There is a separate cloakroom with WC and hand basin serving this area. There is a study with vaulted ceiling. Opening off the study is the main bedroom and the twin bedroom. Both bedrooms share the bathroom which is en-suite to both of them. The bathroom has a bath and a walk-in shower. The main bedroom has a double bed with mosquito net and doors to the rear terrace. The twin bedroom has two single beds both with mosquito nets.

The Guest House has a light and pleasant kitchen/dining room which is fully equipped for self catering. A lounge area with vaulted ceiling opens off the kitchen/dining room. It is equipped with a CD player and a woodburner for winter evenings. Also on the ground floor is the shower room. Stairs lead up to the first floor bedroom which has a double bed. There is access from the bedroom to the roof terrace. The Guest house can be rented seperately from September to June.

The Cottage - is in a separate building at the back of the main house. There is a bedroom with a double bed and an en-suite shower room.

What outside spaces and facilities are there ?

The Main House - has a large shaded terrace to the west. Part of the terrace has sofas and a coffee table and part has a dining area. There is also a large south facing terrace with a further sofa and coffee table and sun chairs.

The Guest House - has an outside dining area and a large outside day sofa on a terrace to the east. There is also a south facing terrace with sun chairs and access to the pool down steps and a path. This terrace is continuous with the main house terrace when you open the gate in the dividing wall. There is also access to the roof terrace via the bedroom.

The Cottage - opens out onto the cobbled courtyard and entrance area to the main house.

There is a private pool of 10 x 4 m and 1 - 2 m depth with sun terraces all round and views over the surrounding countryside.

At the front of the house, there is shaded parking space. The house is surrounded by mature and attractive gardens and then by the carob, olive and almond orchards typical of the area.

What is it like walking from the property ?

Villa Monte is in a hidden valley which you can wander through or over the hill to the south or to the north. Going to the south west, you can walk in a large, sparsley inhabited area of natural vegetation and olive, almond and carob groves. To the north east you can walk into the local village of St.Caterina. Villa Monte has over 2 hectares of land of its own in whcih you are free to wander.

How close is the nearest beach ?

The nearest beach is at Fuzeta, about 25 minutes drive away.

How close are the nearest food shops ?

The nearest small food shops are in St.Caterina, about a five minute drive away. The closest large supermarket is in São Brás, about a 15 minute drive away.

How close are the nearest restaurants ?

There is a good local restaurant about ten minutes drive away, and many more in São Brás and Tavira, both about 15 drive away.

How far is the nearest airport ?

Faro airport is about 35 minutes drive away.

What is there to do ?

Villa Monte is off the beaten track with no organised activities near-by. The property will suit those able to entertain themselves. It will appeal to nature lovers, walkers, cyclists and those just happy to enjoy the peace and quiet, the beautiful house and the countryside.

Are children welcome ?

Yes, there's plenty of space to roam.

Are pets welcome ?

No, sorry.

Can we smoke in the property ?

No. Smoking outside only. SMOKERS MUST BE PARTICULARLY VIGILANT DUE TO THE HEIGHTENED RISK OF CAUSING FIRES IN THE DRY SUMMER MONTHS.

On which day(s) can we arrive/leave ?

Change-over days are Saturdays for the whole house in July and August. Off-season, change-over day for the Guesthouse is flexible.

Is there a minimum/maximum length of stay ?

The minimum stay is 7 nights, but it's not enough.

Are there any dangerous/safety features for small children ?

Entry to the pool is at ground level and is unprotected. Otherwise, Villa Monte is wonderful place for children to roam freely and safely.

Is there anything else I should know about the property ?

During July and August, Villa Monte is only for rent in its entirety, that is: the main house, the Guesthouse and the Cottage all together, sleeping a maximum of 8 people. You will have the whole place to yourselves. If you are renting just the Guesthouse out of season, you will still have the pool area for your exclusive use. The owner of Villa Monte will likely be living in the main house. She is very nice and will respect your privacy and the peace and quiet. She has two soppy, mid-sized dogs who may well visit you.

A EUR 200 DAMAGE DEPOSIT IS PAYABLE FOR BOOKINGS AT VILLA MONTE. THIS WILL BE REFUNDED TO YOU BY BANK TRANSFER AFTER YOUR STAY IF NO DAMAGE IS DONE.
