What is the accommodation like ?Sumptuous. The downstairs of Villa Anjo is a huge open-plan space containing the kitchen, lounge and dining areas. The lounge features a single sofa in cream natural fabric which is large enough for your whole extended family to bask on. It faces two sets of double glass doors opening out onto the terrace for the summer and the open fire place for the winter. There are coffee tables, books, magazines and a CD player. There is no TV. Behind the sofa is the inside dining area with a long table seating eight. Off the dining area is the stylish and bright kitchen by Bulthaup. The kitchen is equipped to the highest standard, including two dishwashers for the serious self-caterers. If your idea of fun on holiday is shopping in the market for all the best local produce then going home and preparing a feast, there is no better place to do it than here. The kitchen is a joy. Also on the ground floor there is a WC and the one of the two en-suite bedrooms. The bedroom has twin beds, its own sofa, fitted wardrobes and doors to the terrace. It has a luxury all white bathroom with both bath and walk-in shower (with massive shower head). Upstairs, there are two twin bedrooms with fitted wardrobes which share a shower room on the landing. Next to the shower room is a laundry room. There is also the principal en-suite bedroom, with large double bed. Its bathroom also has both bath and walk-in shower. Doors open out onto the west roof terrace. There is air-conditioning throughout for the summer, and underfloor heating throughout for the winter. The house is beautifully decorated in a mixture of antique and modern styles. All the fittings and fixtures are of a high quality and natural materials predominate: wood, ceramic, cotton. We love the interior of this house, and so will you. How big is the house ? Big. The house is 280m2 with 150m2 of terraces and 72 m2 of pool. The principal outside space is the large south-facing terrace. This is shaded by a cane roof for summer and looks out over the pool area below and the surrounding countryside. In the centre of the terrace is a large, double day bed for relaxing. Also on the terrace there is outside dining for up to eight people, there are two hammocks, and there is a low table and four small chairs for children. Adjacent to the terrace is a large covered area with built-in seating and a built-in barbeque. Access to the pool is through the the garden as it lies at a lower level than the house. To the rear of the pool is a large terrace with sun beds, part of which is also shaded by a cane roof. The pool is an infinity pool at its farthest end and is 6m wide by 12 m long. It is surrounded by wooded countryside and is completely private. It's a jem. Opening off the upstairs en-suite double bedroom is a large, west-facing terrace, also with a big double day bed under a cane shade roof. The house is situated in 7 hectares of its own land, and otherwise surrounded by open countryside and orange groves. The land is planted with the Olive trees, Carob trees, Almonds, Figs and Holm Oaks typical of the area. At the bottom of the land there is a meadow, a small seasonal stream and a fabulous old stone well. You can explore on foot from the house in the property's own land and the surrounding countryside. You can follow the stream as it winds its way up and down the valley, discover old ruined farm houses, visit the local goat herd, and follow tracks through the natural countryside and the fruit orchards. In spring there is a riot of wild flowers. With the stream and the wild countryside, it is great for birdwatchers. The nearest beaches are at Tavira, St Luzia and Barril, all about a 20 minute drive away, but you probably won't want to leave the house and pool. The nearest small foodshops are at St.Estévão and St Catarina, both about a 5 - 10 minute drive away. Otherwise, Tavira - with its large market and several supermarkets is just 15 - 20 drive away. There is one popular local restaurant about 5 - 10 minutes drive away in St.Estévão. Otherwise, there is a huge choice in Tavira, about 15 - 20 minutes drive away. Faro airport is about 40 minutes drive away. Yes. You are out in the country here, so a car is essential to reach local amenities. See our car hire. We suggest you enjoy the house, enjoy the pool, enjoy the surrounding countryside and enjoy each other's company; Villa Anjo has been built as a family getaway, so bring your family and enjoy some un-stressed time together. Yes, very, and they are well catered for, from babies upwards. No, sorry - this is one member of the family you'll have to leave behind. No. Smoking outside only. SMOKERS MUST BE PARTICULARLY VIGILANT IN THE DRY SUMMER MONTHS DUE TO THE HEIGHTENED RISK OF CAUSING FIRES. Change-over days are Thursdays. The minimum stay is 7 nights, which just isn't long enough; come for at least 2 weeks. There is an unprotected metre high drop from the pool terrace into the pool and from the pool wall to the garden. The entrance to the well at the bottom of the land is unprotected. Otherwise, this is a wonderful place for children to run around freely and safely. For guests who have stayed here before, Villa Anjo is the new name for Quinta do Anjo. |
