Self catering holiday apartment, Tavira riversideSleeps 2-5.
Further information
What is the accommodation like ?This holiday apartment in Tavira is all in a newly built townhouse on the river. The ground floor of the building is taken up by a small and excellent bistro run by the owners. The self catering rental apartment is on the two floors above this and has its own entrance at the back of the building, one street back from the river. The self-contained apartment for two is on the top floor. To the front is the lounge, dining and kitchinette area. Full length glass windows open onto a balcony over-looking the river. The room is eastwards facing and so catches the morning sun. The kitchinette is equipped for limited self-catering. There is satellite TV, a DVD player and a washing machine. There is a double bedroom at the rear, complete with fitted wardrobe and views over Tavira's characteristic roof tops from the balcony. There is a large, attractive bathroom. On the first floor, there is another large bedroom with a big double bed and balcony over-looking the river. This can only be booked in addition to the top floor apartment for parties requiring more than one bedroom. The accommodation throughout is modern with artistic decoration and original art on the walls. Very cool. What outside spaces and facilities are there ? The self-contained upper apartment has a wide balcony overlooking the river, from which you can catch the morning sun and watch the world go by. All three bedrooms have narrow balconies, two opening onto the street behind and the second double bedroom onto the river. Otherwise outside you have the whole of Tavira on your doorstep. Walking up river, you come to the centre of old Tavira in a literal stone's throw. You can cross the river and explore 'the other side', come back and explore the castle, take in some of Tavira's many churches and always be within 10 minutes from home and 2 minutes from a pavement cafe. Walking downriver, you can walk out of Tavira and past the salt pans for 2 km out to the lagoon and the landing stage for the shorter ferry crossing to the beach. Birdwatchers will enjoy the huge area of salt pans close by as it is a haven for waders and other water birds and is a breeding ground for many of them in the summer. You can expect to see Avocets, Black-winged Stilts, Spoonbills, White Storks, Flamingoes, Kentish Plover, Stone Curlews and many more. There are extensive areas of salt pans and marsh on both sides of the river, all of which is accessible on foot from the apartment. The nearest beach is at Tavira. The boat to the beach leaves from right outside the door in high season. Off season, it is a pleasant 2km walk to the little ferry at Quatro Águas which will take you across the lagoon. Tavira's great fresh food market is just a short stroll away, as are other food shops in the town centre. The nearest supermarket is a pleasant ten minute walk across the river. On the ground floor ! Whilst the apartment is self catering, Tavira has many restaurants and are also all located within five mintues walking distance. The Riverside Apartment is about a 35 minute drive from Faro airport, but let the taxi driver worry about that - you just sit back and enjoy the ride. No. We can arrange taxi transfer to and from Faro airport for you with our taxi driver who knows the house. Alternatively you can hire a car for your holiday apartment. What is there to do ? You have all the entertainment of Tavira on your doorstep. During the summer months, there is an extensive programme of entertainment in the main square, which is all free; you just have to turn up. It is on at night and caters to all tastes. Also, there are frequent faires in the gardens by the river which will offer you many local products and much local colour. There are also concerts in some of Tavira's many churches, often of classical music or choir music, and which again are often free. There are the local street festivities at different times across the year, including the religious procession at Easter. You can take a 'train' ride around the town, or opt for traditional horse and trap. You can visit the castle, the Camera Obscura and various art galleries. In July and August, you can walk to the open-air film festival in the cloisters of the old convent. And you can eat and drink yourselves silly - all in the open air, of course. They are welcome, although the apartment is more laid out with adults in mind. No, sorry. No. Ashtrays are provided for smoking outside. For 2011 we have a flexible changeover day, but must fit in well with existing bookings. The earliest check-in time is 15:00 hrs and the latest check-out time is 11.00 hrs. The minimum stay is 7 nights. For guests who have stayed here before, The Riverside Apartment is the new name for 'O' Porto.. See our other rental accommodation in the Eastern Algarve |
