Holiday townhouse accommodation, 2 bedroomsSleeps 4.
Further information
What is the accommodation like ?At the front of the house is a spacious lounge/dining room, equipped with sofas and table and chairs for four, Portuguese TV and DVD/CD player. The kitchen is at the rear of the house. It also has a dining table and is simply equipped for self catering. Full length glass doors open out onto a tiny rear patio. Stairs to the second floor are in the middle of the house. There is a downstairs WC underneath the stairs. There is a modern bathroom in the centre, with a full length bath/shower. To the rear of the house is the double bedroom and to the front of the house is the twin bedroom. Both bedrooms have fitted wardrobes. The cobbled street the house is in leads up to Tavira's largest church - Igreja do Carmo - the site of free concerts and the open-air film festivals. The hill is covered with mainly white-washed traditional houses showing many of the typical architectural features of the area: stone window and door surrounds of many designs, wrought iron balconies, elaborate facades; all in a labryth of cobbled alleys. Going down the hill into the 'baixa' - the low part of Tavira bordering the river - you enter a more commercial area of cafe's, restaurants and small shops. The river is very close, as is the 'Roman' pedestrian bridge which leads over it to Tavira's impressive main square and further commercial areas. The nearest beach is Tavira beach, which you get to by a pleasant ten minute boat ride up the river. The boat leaves from the middle of town, just a 5 minute walk away across the river. Everything is within walking distance. There are food shops right at the bottom of the street - 2 minutes walk away. Tavira's best supermarket is about 5 minutes walk away and the daily fresh produce market 10 - 15 minutes walk away. Our favourite recommended restaurants in Tavira are all in a small area at the bottom of your hill - just a 2 minute walk away. Carmo Townhouse is about a 30 minute drive from Faro airport...but let the taxi driver worry about that - he knows where he's going. Sit back and enjoy the ride. No. We will arrange a taxi transfer for you to the house, and then you can be foot-loose and fancy free. If you want to explore further afield, we suggest you walk to the train station and hop on a train that runs either way along the Algarve coast for next to no money. If you want to hire a car, see our car hire. Tavira is your entertainment. Other than taking in the sights and tastes, Tavira runs a full programme of entertainment over the summer months. Much of it is open air and free, both in the great new amphi-theatre in the main square and in the riverside gardens. There are also free concerts in some of Tavira's many churches and for cinema fans, the open-air film festivals in July and August, both just up the hill from Carmo Townhouse. All of it, of course, is within 5 minutes walking distance. Yes, very. No, sorry. No. Only outside, please. The minimum stay is 7 nights. For guests who have stayed here before, Carmo Townhouse is the new name for Casa Carmo. |
