What is the accommodation like ?Brook Cottage is a traditional cottage that has been simply and tastefully restored throughout to maintain its original charm. In contrast, the furnishing throughout is all IKEA and modern. The main cottage has a lounge/dining room, kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms with double beds (one en-suite to the bathroom). The annex has a further double bedroom and en-suite shower room. It's all low doors, small windows, odd angles and thoroughly charming. The interior floor area of the house is 745 square feet / 69 square metres. The annex is 264 square feet / 24 square metres. On the east side of the house is a small 'breakfast' terrace overlooking the stream and hills and two small courtyard spaces partially enclosed within ruined stone walls. On the west side of the house, there is a covered, shaded terrace with dining table, a small barbeque and further stone terraces down to the hillside. The views are again over the stream valley and surrounding hills. Otherwise outside, you are surrounded by the ruined and uninhabited houses of the hamlet. Walking anywhere down hill from Brook Cottage brings you quickly to the stream, which runs when it rains in the winter and is dry in summer. There are some deeper pools on bends in the river, pegos, where you can dip yourself at the right time of year. You can follow the stream up or down as it winds its way through the valley and you can return via the road. The stream is always pretty and interesting and ideal for bird watchers. The meadows surrounding the house and alongside the stream are a riot of wind flowers in the spring, between February and May. The nearest beaches are at Tavira, Cabanas and Manta Rota, all about 15 - 20 minutes drive away. Fifteen minutes drive down the hill brings you to Tavira, with its great fresh food market, large supermarket and other food shops, or to Conceição/Cabanas, with its smaller shops. There are two local cafés/restaurants just 5 minutes drive away up the hill. Both are run by local families. The food is local Portugues faire that is best ordered in the morning or the day before. The many restaurants of Tavira, St Luzia, Cacela and Cabanas are a 15 - 20 minute drive away. Brook Cottage is about a 50 minute drive from Faro airport. Yes. Brook Cottage is up in the hills. See our car hire. Relax, unwind, look at the view, read a book, open another bottle of vinho verde, walk the valley north, walk the valley south, spot the bee-eaters, Golden Oriels, Hoopoes and Iberian Magpies, enjoy each other's company. This is a place to get away from it all and enjoy the peace and quiet and nature. Yes, very. No, sorry. No. Smoking is outside only. IN THE DRY SUMMER MONTHS, SMOKERS MUST BE PARTICULARLY VIGILANT DUE TO THE HIGH RISK OF CAUSING FIRES. Change-over day is Friday. Check-in is 16.00 and check-out is 11.00. Out of season, we can be flexible on both days and times. The minimum stay is 7 nights, though we suggest that you will want to stay for longer. There are no particular dangers for small children, though adults are warned to watch their heads on the low doorways. The internal doorways are very low, so not ideal for tall people. There is no door between the ktichen and the adjoining bedroom, just a doorway and curtain. For guests who have stayed here before, Brook Cottage is the new name for Casa Ribeirinha. |
